This list is for advocates in New York State that assist unaccompanied runaway and homeless youth (typically 16-24 years old) navigate shelter, benefits and subsidized housing programs and systems. Membership is limited to advocates and providers, and not open to government officials.
Homeless youth often experience particular barriers to accessing public benefits, subsidized housing and homeless shelters in New York (including youth-specific as well as family/adult shelters). This listserv will focus on the interactions of homeless youth and their advocates with housing, shelter and benefits programs. The goal of this listserv is to function as a space for providers and advocates to raise questions, share information, discuss emerging patterns, and share tips and solutions.
